Etidronic Acid (HEDP) is a phosphonic acid-based chelating agent with the following characteristics:
Solubility: Highly soluble in water and strong acids, slightly soluble in organic solvents.
Stability:Chemically stable in acidic and alkaline conditions (pH 1-14). Resists thermal decomposition up to 200°C, making it suitable for high-temperature applications.
Functionality:Strong chelation of metal ions even in low concentrations. Inhibits scale formation and corrosion, particularly in hard water systems.
As a high-performance scale and corrosion inhibitor, HEDP is widely used in:
Cooling/Boiler Systems;RO Membranes
Acid Cleaning :Added at 0.1-0.5% to protect metals (e.g., steel, copper) while removing rust/scale.
Aluminum Etching: Compatible with phosphoric acid to prevent over-corrosion.
Scale Inhibition:
Stabilizer in Cosmetics: Binds metal ions to prevent oxidation in shampoos.
